Kitsap National Guard Family Fund

A Partnership of the
Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce
and
Kitsap Community Resources (KCR)

Nearly 300 National Guardsmen from Kitsap County have been called up
for combat service in Iraq. Unlike those on active duty these service people
and their families did not anticipate serving overseas in a combat zone. They
are typically older, many with teenagers, and are leaving their famil and
better-paying civillian jobs at home.

The result is tremendous stress and financial pressures on the families. Debt
and other family issues are common. The families often can feel isolated as
they face many of these issues for the first time. And, unlike in the other
services, there are few organized family support services available for
National Guard Families.

The Kitsap National Guard Family Fund has been created to address this issue and show our support for these families. The Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce and Kitsap Community Resources have joined together to
establish this fund, the proceeds of which will be used solely to assist area
families of deployed National Guard soldiers. The Chamber will assist with
promotions and fundraising and KCR, Kitsap County's Community Action
Agency, will administer the fund and help families find needed resources.
